From a spare room to a home podcast studio
The owners of a Palm Beach County home wanted a studio of their own for a video podcast. Video Department (VIDEO DEPT.), a Fort Lauderdale video production studio, designed and built a set in one of their spare rooms, lit it and set up the cameras and sound. The owners liked it so much that they film their YouTube videos there too.

How it came together
- March 2026The spare room. A home office with a desk, a window onto the garden and a wood-look accent wall. On the first visit, VIDEO DEPT. set up lights and tuned the camera settings in the room, and that visit grew into a full studio project.
- June 2026The set goes in. A round relief with a warm backlight became the centerpiece behind the chairs, with wood slat panels on both sides and a textured finish on the walls.
- August 2026Ready to record. Lights rigged overhead, two chairs and a small table on the set, and a camera on its mark.
What VIDEO DEPT. did
- Designed the set. Planned what the camera sees behind the hosts: the lit relief in the center, framed by wood slats, so every shot has depth and a look of its own.
- Built the custom set. The lit centerpiece and the slat panels were made for this room.
- Lit it for video. Studio lights for the people on camera, rigged up high, plus the warm glow behind the relief.
- Set up the cameras and sound. Cameras and microphones set up and tuned, and the owners shown how to press record on their own.
